6:45 pm board meeting, 7:30 pm general meeting: Technical Program "Voicing Problems Unique to High-Tension Scales, by Roger Gable
High tension scales comon to Asian pianos present unique voicing problems.  This month we will exchange ideas to tackle these problems, including an examination of what techniques work and what don't.  Some problems we face are insurmountable, so we find ourselves oveworking the hammers to achieve an unattainable goal.  This discussion will include theory and prcatice on some Yamaha pianos.

Registrations are strong and we have a group of instructors that are as good as anything you will find anywhere. I want to thank everyone who has been involved. The technical presentation will feature highlights of what Darrell presented at Oregon Day in November. The class will include selecting hammers to match the piano design, voicing, and the new Fandrich key weighting procedure and its accompanying software.

Technical Program: Adhesives and how we can’t get along without them
The November 15, 2004 meeting will be held at Classical Grands in downtown Seattle.
Jeannie Grassi and Bill Smith will be discussing all of the adhesives used in our business: which ones work best for which applications, and which ones to avoid. They will cover the properties of the various types of glues and some methods of use. Information on some of the newer glues available and whether they are appropriate for our work will also be covered. And there will also be results from a few experiments.

The agenda includes slides of Jack Cashion's visit to piano factories in Germany, and a re-test of Roger Jolly's hammer swinging test that was published in the journal last year, with significantly different conclusions.  Please bring any tools or methods you use that you think would be of interest, and also ideas for future meeting presentations (and locations, if you want to rotate).
