Larry has gardened off and on since the age of 10. He has worked on a friend’s organic farm in the mid to late 1980’s. Pretty much an entrepreneur and has ran his own businesses since the late 1970’s.
Jackie has homesteaded in Northern Minnesota for 8 years. Her background includes 10 years of energy conservation work in housing and presently works part time off the farm as a house cleaner. Gardening is a favorite passion.
We bought the farm in September of 2000, a dream of ours. Experimented with growing in clay loam, we both had only grown in sandy loams. The first 2 years of gardening here, we learned what did well and what kind of problems are present. In 2003 we certified the farm, ready for larger scale production. We have been selling at various farmers markets.
Vine-ripened
We Pick everything vine-ripened to ensure the maximum flavour and nutrition. We do not warehouse produce such as tomatoes for weeks
More nutrition
Clay soil has a great advantage over other sandy soil since less watering is needed. Watering washes out nutrients from produce. Less watering can also mean more flavour in addition to nutrients.
Local Fair Trade
We pay a living wage to any people we hire. We believe that is important to a better world, which is part of our mission with the planet and people that live on It.!
